About EPAN: Securing our energy future
What is EPAN?
Every day, decisions are made in state and federal legislatures that may impact the energy industry, Alliant Energy, and the company's stock and pension programs. While many people participate in the political process during elections, the time between elections is especially critical to positioning the company politically so it can continue to effectively serve its customers, employees and retirees. And you can help.
Through membership in Alliant Energy's Public Affairs Network (EPAN), you can support elected officials and candidates that help the company meet its strategic objectives. This voluntary, bipartisan program is the link between Alliant Energy and the legislators that shape the energy industry.

What happens when I join EPAN?
EPAN contributions are managed by a board of employees who volunteer their time to examine issues of importance to Alliant Energy. They make recommendations and, via a majority vote, determine which candidates receive contributions from the fund.

If I join EPAN, will my contributions go to both Republicans and Democrats?
Yes! EPAN is a bipartisan program, meaning it does not favor one political party over another. The EPAN boards select recipients on a number of criteria, such as policy positions, demonstrated leadership, and dedication to improving the relationship between business and government. Political affiliation is not one of them. Both Democrats and Republicans have received EPAN contributions.

Aren't political action committees like EPAN designed to "buy" votes?
No, that's a misunderstanding. EPAN contributes to those candidates who have shown a philosophy on issues that is similar to the company's. EPAN does not contribute to change the mind of opponents. Furthermore, there are legal limits on how much EPAN can give a candidate, and EPAN adheres to stringent reporting requirements that are open to public review.
